Attractive electrons in functional oxide based devices

Jan 19, 2026

Normally, two electrons repel each other because they are both negatively charged. However, colleagues of mine have found that, at the interface between two oxides, electrons can also attract one another. We investigated this effect by exploiting the presence of accidental quantum dots and studying their transport as a function of gate voltage and magnetic field at millikelvin temperatures. I performed modeling to corroborate these exicting experimental results. The full story can be found in this preprint.
